Heritage Alliance Gives Donna Campbell Highest Rating in Texas Senate District 25 Race

San Antonio – Heritage Alliance released their candidate scorecards this week, giving Texas Senate candidate Dr. Donna Campbell the highest rating a candidate can receive. In the race for Senate District 25, Donna Campbell earned an ‘A+’, while her opponents Elizabeth Ames Jones and longtime incumbent Sen. Jeff Wentworth, scored a ‘C’ and ‘F’ respectively.

In the past, Heritage Alliance has also scored the voting records of Elizabeth Ames Jones and Sen. Jeff Wentworth in the Texas legislature, where both received low grades. A recent mail piece sent out by the Donna Campbell Campaign highlighted Ames Jones’s failing grade in 2003.

Heritage Alliance is a nationally recognized conservative organization which bases their scores on a candidate or legislator’s commitment to restore principles of free enterprise, limited government, limited taxation, and traditional Judeo-Christian values.

Early voting for the Senate District 25 race began Monday, May 14 and continues through May 25, with Election Day scheduled for May 29, the day after Memorial Day. Senate District 25 includes parts of Bexar, Guadalupe, Hays, and Travis Counties, and all of Kendall and Comal County.

According to Mark P. Jones, Chairman of the Department of Political Science at Rice University, there is very little ideological difference between Sen. Jeff Wentworth and Elizabeth Ames Jones, a point that has been highly publicized since being published in the Texas Tribune a few days ago.

Dr. Donna Campbell, challenger for Senate District 25, released a 30 second TV ad this week with a similar message. The spot, called “Entrenched”, shows the similarities between the voting records of Elizabeth Ames Jones and longtime incumbent Senator Wentworth, labeling both as career politicians who have voted for fiscally irresponsible budgets in the past.

The ad delves further into Elizabeth Ames Jones’s tenure in the Texas House, highlighting her support for in-state tuition for illegal immigrants and quoting a PolitiFact story that ruled her claim of balancing a $10 billion budget shortfall without raising taxes as “Mostly False.”

“The voters of Senate District 25 deserve better than two establishment politicians with liberal leaning voting records. Texas families have a unique opportunity on May 29th to say no to politics-as-usual,” Dr. Donna Campbell stated. “Why trade one career politician for another when you can choose a citizen with private sector experience who shares your values?”

Dr. Donna Campbell has been championed by tea party groups and gained key social conservative endorsements, including Texas Right to Life, Texas Alliance for Life, Texas Leadership Coalition, Texas Home School Coalition PAC, David Barton (of WallBuilders), and Pastor Robert Emmitt (of CBC), adding to her credibility as the only true conservative in the race.

San Antonio – Dressed in scrubs with the historic San Fernando Cathedral in the background, Texas Senate candidate Dr. Donna Campbell spoke to an enthusiastic crowd at the Stand Up for Religious Freedom Rally on Friday. The rally was organized by the Texas Leadership Coalition and held at the main plaza in downtown San Antonio to demonstrate against the recent contraception mandate.

The Obama administration and Health and Human Services Secretary have been under heavy criticism ever since declaring that religious organizations and affiliations (other than churches and synagogues) must cover birth control, abortifacients, and in some cases, even abortions free of charge for employees. After fierce pushback from the Catholic Church, the government mandate was amended to put the burden on health insurance companies, not religious organizations, although U.S. Roman Catholic bishops claim they are still negatively affected and can’t opt out of the coverage.

“As a practicing physician, mom, and woman of faith, I am deeply troubled by this unconstitutional overreach,” Dr. Donna Campbell told the crowd. “This is a dagger aimed at the heart of Western civilization, an attack on who we are as a free society and a moral people. Obamacare not only dangerously places a bureaucrat between you and your doctor, it now puts the government between Americans and their deeply held religious beliefs.”

“We cannot afford to be a nation that is materially rich and spiritually poor,” Dr. Campbell continued. “Those aren’t my word, but words spoken by President John F. Kennedy. This decision, without the consent of the governed, misplaces our nation’s priorities, trading freedom and dignity for the empty promise of government freebies. It will make our nation poorer, both morally and fiscally, and I’m afraid it will force many Catholic hospitals to close their doors, leading to poorer health services.”

Dr. Donna Campbell is a New Braunfels physician running for the senate seat currently held by 18 year incumbent Sen. Jeff Wentworth of Alamo Heights. She has been endorsed by Texas Right to Life, Texas Alliance for Life, and the Central Texas Republican Assembly.

PRESS RELEASE: MARCH 16, 2012

The Central Texas Republican Assembly (CTRA) endorsed in three primary races on Tuesday evening. The candidates endorsed were Donna Campbell (State Senate, District 25), Ken Mercer (State Board of Education, Place 5), and Jim Strickland (Travis County Commissioner, Place 3).

“The CTRA is proud to put our support behind these conservative candidates,” said president Daniel McDonald. “These are the candidates we believe will best represent the Republican Party’s platform and conservative values if they are elected to their respective offices.”

The candidates in several local races were sent questionnaires, and an endorsement committee made recommendations to the membership. Candidates were invited to attend Tuesday’s meeting to make their case to the membership. The CTRA will consider candidates in the other races in Travis, Hays, and Bastrop counties at an upcoming meeting.

In order to endorse in a contested Republican primary, a quorum of the membership must be present, and a candidate must receive the support of two-thirds (67%) of those present.

The Central Texas Republican Assembly is a grassroots movement to take back the Republican Party for the vast majority of its members: Reagan conservatives who believe in small government, lower taxes, free market capitalism, a strong defense, the right to life, and a decent and moral America.

For her commitment to gun owners and her pledge to defend the second amendment, Dr. Donna Campbell has received an ‘A’ rating from the National Rifle Association, the highest grade the organization awards to non-incumbents.

Dr. Campbell received the news in a letter from the NRA. The grade was awarded based on her positions advocating for gun rights, including a pledge to sponsor campus-carry legislation, something her opponent, Sen. Jeff Wentworth tried and failed to push through the Texas Senate in the last session. The 6-term incumbent senator recently announced he is no longer interested in carrying the bill.

Dr. Donna Campbell said she will take on that responsibility. “It’s a good piece of legislation that fell short due to Senator Wentworth’s misfires and deserves another chance. I’m for it, I’ll carry it, and I won’t conceal my support for it,” the New Braunfels physician stated. “I believe the second amendment is the bedrock to protecting all our other liberties.”

Nominees and winners were determined by nearly 25,000 grassroots conservative voters in Texas. Dr. Donna Campbell was joined by nine other honorees, including U.S. Senate candidate Ted Cruz.

“It is an honor to receive so much support from so many Texans. For too long our voice has been marginalized by a career politician who doesn’t share our core conservative values,” Donna Campbell told the crowd. “I will fight to make sure the values that make Texas great are present again in the statehouse.”

“If we’re going to take our government back, we have to take on the big political interests,” Donna stated. “Anyone who knows me well knows I won’t back down when it comes to defending conservative principles and free enterprise. Texas still has a lot of work to do to get our house in order.”

CTxPAC winners were selected from among all Republican challengers in the state running against an incumbent for the 2012 election. The announcement kicked off a weekend conference of conservative panels and keynote speakers.

AUSTIN, TX – Texas Alliance for Life PAC (TAL PAC) today announced its endorsement of Dr. Donna Campbell in her race for Texas State Senate District 25. Texas Alliance for Life is one of the largest pro-life advocacy organizations in Texas and has played a critical role in the passage of many pro-life bills for more than a decade.

“Dr. Donna Campbell will be a strong advocate for the mothers and unborn babies,” said Joe Pojman, Ph.D., Executive Director of TAL PAC. “We urge every pro-life voter in Senate District 25 to get out and vote for Donna Campbell. We need her in the Legislature to stand up against those who refuse to protect the most innocent among us.”

“No other candidate in the race exhibits Dr. Campbell’s passion for the pro-life issue; she is by far the strongest pro-life candidate in the race,” continued Pojman.

Upon receiving the endorsement, Dr. Donna Campbell replied, “I am grateful the support and confidence of the pro-life community. No one will work harder than me in the Texas Senate for the pro-life cause.”

Today Dr. Donna Campbell, candidate for Texas State Senate District 25, was endorsed by immediate past Texas GOP chairman Cathie Adams. Adams has served conservatives in Texas for decades in her leadership roles with Texas Eagle Forum and the Republican Party of Texas.

“Dr. Campbell is a strong conservative on all the issues and is the kind of leader Republicans need in the Texas Senate,” Adams said. “She will stand up against the temptation to raise taxes during our next session and will stand for limiting the role of government in the lives of Texans. As a physician Donna Campbell is the most qualified individual to tackle the health care challenges we face as a state as well as the impending threat of Obamacare. I couldn’t be happier with her candidacy. Texas needs strong conservatives, not lifelong politicians in Austin.”

Dr. Donna Campbell is the conservative voice that the voters of Senate District 25 deserve. She is a wife, mother, and physician–not a career politician. Please consider volunteering for her campaign or making a small donation. With your help we can spread our conservative message across Senate District 25.
